I began keeping a sketchbook/s in 2002, but it was until 2004 that I began to fully appreciate the benefit of doing so. Prior to that I'd always felt like they were these untidy, clichéd & contrived looking books that I wasn't ready to keep
Being self taught it took a long time to begin to understand how I worked at my best & what I was comfortable with & sketchbooks became something that I naturally progressed to. I couldn't be without one now, they act like a personal diary, pages are often 'text' heavy with complete frankness, doodles/ideas/sketches, which I continually develop & found images that inspire & provoke feelings.
